I Just Bought A Camera!
A couple months ago I bought my very own real camera, I've been wanting one for quite a while now!
CaaS (Camera as a Service)
So like the title says, I just bought a camera! And I've been having a lot of fun going around and taking pictures of the city and when I'm with friends. The picture quality is so much better than my phone camera and I already love it! I've been learning a lot about different camera settings like aperture, shutter speed... and focus I guess? Anyways, I got a little too excited and also ended up buying a new lens for my setup and honestly even though my rent will go unpaid, I'm pretty happy with everything.
Return On Investment
So far the roi is pretty negative, but I think down the line it will be very worth it. My thoughts are that the memories that I capture in 4K video and 33 MP images will make it worth it. And maybe down the line I could do some things that might pay a little. So far everything I've done has been for free. One of my friends back home has a little business coaching kids, and I used my camera to make him some pretty cool edits of him coaching. That whole process was really fun and I honestly think that could be a side gig maybe, once I get good at taking shots and coming up with video / advertisement ideas.
Who knows down the line maybe I can use this camera at family weddings, my friends weddings. Hikes that I swear I'm going to start going on soon. Whenever I travel, or even just leave my apartment, go to a museum. It's a really cool conversation starter, a few days after I got it I ended up going to a few stores, and an employee at Oakley was asking me about the camera and what I shoot. I told him I want to shoot people... and realized that sounded kinda weird so I also said city / street shots too. And this was after I had gotten the lens so there he was asking me, with thousands of dollars of equipment, the most basic camera questions and It was obvious I was a loser poser and didn't understand them much so yeah. Anyways now I can answer some basic questions and understand a lot more of the camera settings so that's something to be proud of.
It's Mostly Fun
I really enjoy the process of taking photos and showing people right after I take them because they look great! But that's usually as far as it goes because once I get home the biggest chore to me about owning this camera is getting the photos out of the SD card, editing them and sharing them. Actually editing and sharing isn't really that bad, the worst thing in the process for me as a beginner is just going through the hundreds of photos I took and choosing the good ones, the built in mac file viewer is really bad and I save the RAW and JPEG versions so there's also some overhead when it comes to finding the right RAW after finding a JPEG I like. I think this process is called culling and yeah that's what I hate the most, it makes me want to take very little but high quality photos when I do use my camera.
One Idea I had was to make myself a little app that I can use that matches my workflow perfectly to make this whole process a lot smoother and make it feel like much less of a chore. I think I'll start working on that today or soon, so that I can clear up my SD cards and share some photos, because my friends have been asking about some I took recently.
